Next-gen Motorola Moto 360 Smartwatch

The Motorola Moto 360 has proven to be one of the most popular Android smartwatches to date. Now, its much-anticipated successor seems to have been shown off in full by three images of the device being worn by Motorola employees in Chicago.

A smartwatch won’t be noticed unless it passes the watch test – it must first look, feel, and act like a real watch while reinforcing the wearer’s style and identity. Only after meeting this watch test can smartwatch makers hope that consumers will start loading apps on their wrist. Motorola has done a convincing job designing a smartwatch that passes the watch test while also allowing customers to customize the watch to their preferences.

The new Motorola Moto 360 is dramatically better than last year’s model. The wearable is improved in nearly every way, and delivers more of the core experience consumers seek from their smartwatches.

Everything you could want in a watch is built into the Motorola Moto 360 Smart Watch in Stone Leather. Of course it’s a very handsome watch, that goes without saying, but it’s so much more.

The smart watch is the wave of the future with instant updates that keep you on track, even when you’re on the road. Using Android and Google technology, you can get the data you want with voice controls. Today one of the biggest trends is the fitness band; with Moto 360 it’s built right in; all you need to keep your fitness goals on track. Want to play with your favorite apps; they’re also right there and there are more coming all the time. It’s like you’ve been waiting your whole life for a watch like this.

Thanks to its water-resistant chassis and Gorilla Glass 3 display, the Moto 360 should be able to withstand the rigors of a strenuous workout. But it looks so pretty, I wouldn’t have the heart to use it in the gym. I’d rather use the Motorola Moto 360 Sport (pricing TBD), whose silicone frame and special coating prevent moisture build-up while keeping your wrist cool. That watch is targeted to gym rats. As for the Moto 360, it can keep track of my movements as I go about my daily activities.

The smartwatch OS is fantastic with Android phones, and now it even works with iPhones. Apple puts some restrictions on Android Wear, so you won’t be able to do everything with your Android Wear watch that you can do if you’ve got an Android phone. The list of apps the work with iOS and Android Wear is also still pretty limited, and you’ll be stuck primarily with Google apps (though some work better than others). However, you can receive notifications from any app on your iPhone, which is great. You just can’t interact with most of them yet, which sucks. As far as smartwatch hardware is concerned, Motorola’s Moto 360 is a big step in the right direction. It’s not only more aesthetically pleasing than alternatives from Samsung and Pebble, but its more traditional design has the potential to attract those who currently use fashionable analog watches. The device’s quality construction also helps justify the price tag.
